Internet and Family

Internet and Family

It is a program promoted by the Regional Government of the Principality of Asturias, as part of the Strategy for the Development of the Information Society (e-Asturias) and developed by the CTIC Foundation. It aims at the promotion of the safe use of the Internet by Asturian children, thus involving all the educative community (family and teachers)

Objectives:

  • To promote a safe use of the Internet among children.
  • To provide families with sufficient knowledge to allow them control and guide the use of Internet made by their children. 
  • To raise teachers awareness on the need to train their students in the responsible use of the Web.
  • To disseminate the use of filtering tools.
  • To change attitudes in order to guarantee a safe net and its rational use.

Target groups:

  • Children and young people (main target group of the Project).
  • Families: parents and other “older” relatives, as main responsible for children. The involvement of grandparents is also a goal since it may contribute to promote the use of the Internet among the older people target group.
  • Teachers, as a point of learning on computers use. 
  • Personnel responsible of telecentres, in order to transmit their advices and recommendations to users in general.
  • Media. 
  • Administrations: the project pursues the collaboration with different areas of regional and local administration. 
  • Civil society: associations and non-governmental organizations.

Activities:

  • Promotional campaign, including the distribution of the newsletter A safe net for the whole the family. 
  • Promotional campaign, including the distribution of the newsletter The Web of Internet and the Family that includes all the information, resources and multimedia material about the project.
  • Training and dissemination material for teachers. 
  •  Filtering tools: 4.300 will be distributed free of charge. They will have a validity period of one year. 
  • Training sessions in the educative context adapted to each of the target groups. 
  • The Internet and Family Bus. Equipped with 29 computers and access to the Internet, it will go on a tour on the school centres. 
  • 1st National Contest of Short Films Internet and Family.

Two types of participants: adults or children under 16, on the three categories (DVD, voadcasting and video for mobile).
